The Abia State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with armed robbery, cultism, and the destruction of government property.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the command identified the suspects as Michael Kalu, 21, from Ebonyi State but resident in Abia, and Obinna Chimezie, 23, from Aba.

According to police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit apprehended Kalu on May 6, 2026, following actionable intelligence. He is suspected to be an armed robber and a cultist. Recovered from him were one English pistol and one locally made pistol.

In a separate operation, officers of the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Chimezie while he was allegedly vandalising a gas pipeline supplying fuel to Geometric Power. A toy gun was recovered from him. Authorities also destroyed a tent used for drug-related activities at the scene.

Both suspects are in police custody, and investigations are ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department. They will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to provide timely information to the nearest police station.
