The Nigeria Police Force has announced the capture of a man suspected of being responsible for the abduction and alleged murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her young daughter.

In a statement released on Monday by Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, it was disclosed that the suspect, identified as Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun, was handed over to Nigerian authorities by the Ghana Police Service in Accra, Ghana.

This followed a coordinated multi-agency operation facilitated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB).

Fejemirokun had fled Nigeria after the abduction and suspected murder of FRSC officer Superintendent Route Commander Funmilayo Oluwamayokun and her daughter, Sewa Lasisi.

The Ogun State Police Command had reported that both Funmilayo and Sewa were missing after they disappeared from their home in Abeokuta.

According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, the mother and daughter left their residence at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Oke-Mosan, without informing anyone of their destination.

Since their disappearance on Sunday, November 2, family members, neighbors, and colleagues have made multiple attempts to contact them, but all efforts have been unsuccessful as their mobile phones remain switched off.

On Monday, Hundeyin said based on credible intelligence, the Ghana Police Service discovered the suspect was hiding in their jurisdiction and effected his arrest before contacting Nigeria.

He assured that an investigation would be conducted into the matter and the case brought to a logical conclusion.

“The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has taken full custody of fugitive suspect Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun.

“The suspect was handed over by the Ghana Police Service today in Accra, Ghana, following a coordinated multi-agency operation. Fejemirokun had fled Nigeria after the abduction and suspected murder of an FRSC officer and her young daughter in Osun State.

“The Ghana Police Service, acting on credible intelligence that the suspect was hiding within their jurisdiction, effected his arrest and immediately notified the Nigeria Police Force. Acting on this notification, Interpol NCB Abuja swiftly proceeded to Accra, where the handover was finalised.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, while commiserating with the family of the bereaved, has assured that the investigation would be thorough and brought to a logical conclusion, after which the suspect would be arraigned accordingly. He also commended the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism and cooperation.

“The Nigeria Police Force assures the public that it remains committed to protecting the lives of all Nigerians and apprehending offenders regardless of distance or borders while strengthening international partnerships against transnational crimes,” the statement read.
