The police in Lagos state have confirmed the arrest and detain an Inspector of Police for shooting a civilian by the name, Gafaru Buraimoh, dead at Happy Land Estate, Ajah today December 7.
An eyewitness who shared videos from the scene said the young man killed was out to get fuel when he was gunned down.
The cause of the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
She also shared a video sowing police officers in patrol vans and said they were firing teargas at people who were protesting the killing of the young man.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin revealed that a “full-scale investigation” had commenced into the incident which he said occurred around 11.30 pm on Tuesday.
According to Hundeyin, the officer behind the shooting was “immediately disarmed and has been detained.”
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the PPRO assured the public that the investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting would be brought to a “speedy and conclusive end.”
The statement read;
“At About 2330hrs of Tuesday, December 06 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah.
“The officer behind the shooting, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been detained, as full-scale investigation has commenced.
“The Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has since notified and established contact with the family.
“The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served.”
