Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have apprehended two alleged cultists notorious for fomenting trouble, stealing and tormenting Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) students in Ogbomoso recovering weapons, knives and stolen goods from the criminals.

The command has also arrested a 19-year old Burglar.

Ngozi Onadeko, the state Commissioner of Police, confirmed this at a press conference on Thursday.

She said the cultists were part of “a known armed robbery syndicate” that had previously attacked LAUTECH students’ hostel in Ogbomosho’s Under-G neighbourhood.

The police commissioner held that the paraded criminals have committed offences, ranging from armed robbery, housebreaking and obtaining money under false pretences.

Onadeko claimed that the suspected cultists accosted a student on March 20 around 10 p.m. armed with firearms and Jackknives, and robbed him of his phone as well as N1,000,000 from his bank account. She said that the hoodlums also attacked other LAUTECH students and dispossessed them of their valuables regularly.

“The long arm of law caught up with them in May, along Ogbomoso axis, in a deliberately planned operation by operatives of the command’s Monitoring Unit, in collaboration with the local vigilantes and hunters. Active investigations are ongoing to crackdown members of the criminal gang,” she said.

The 19-year Old burglar had two Electric stabilizers, a Plasma TV, a generator, and a pressing iron, et cetera in his possession when he was caught.

Onadeko stated that security is a lifelong process and urged Oyo State residents to provide police with timely and accurate information to aid in the battle against crime.

She also urged Oyo State citizens to go about their legitimate business with peace of mind. According to her, tactical intelligence and operational assets have been deployed across the state to provide adequate security.
