Police arrest 27-year-old man with fresh human head in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspected ritualist, Uwadiae Airebiuwa, with a fresh head in Evbuotubu Quarters, Benin City. 

The spokesperson of the command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, March 8, 2025, said the suspect took the police to a road near Eweka Shopping Plaza where the decapitated body of a man was found.

According to the PPRO, the deceased was later identified by a family member as Edobor Lawrence, a 43-year-old fashion designer. 

“On 07/03/2025 at approximately 0300hrs, Operatives of Evbuotubu Division alongside vigilante members, while on patrol of the area, intercepted and arrested one Uwadiae Airebiuwa, 27yrs, of Igbinudu Street, Evbuotubu Quarters, in possession of a fresh human head contained in a polythene bag,” the statement read.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect took them to a decapitated body of a man along the road near Eweka Shopping Plaza. 

The deceased, later identified by a family member as Edobor Lawrence, 43yrs, of No. 1 Osagie Street, Evbuotubu Quarters, was evacuated to the hospital for preservation while investigation continues.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin psc, mnips while condoling family of the deceased, assured them and the general public that the Command will not rest until all those involved in this heinous crime are brought to book.

“She further advised young persons to seek legitimate means of making money rather than venturing into crime.”
