The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 26 suspects for the gruesome murder of Mrs. Martina Itagbor, who was accused of witchcraft.
The mother of four was accused of being responsible for the deaths of some youths in a car crash.
She was subsequently beaten and burned alive by youths in Netim community in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Irene Ugbo,on Tuesday, July 4 confirmed the arrest of 26 suspects at various locations in the state.
Ugbo said the command had begun investigations into the matter to determine the culpability of the suspects.
The PPRO reiterated that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book.
“We stand unwavering in our resolve and unyielding to any obstacle that may hinder the police from unravelling the depth of this matter,” she stated.
She said Commissioner of Police Gyogon Grimah had directed the prosecution of those involved in the woman’s killing
