Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Ogun State.
A viral video from the ceremony showed an emotional Phyna surrounded by her former Level 2 housemates, who turned out to support her during the heartbreaking farewell.
Ruth’s passing came after a devastating accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, where a Dangote Group truck collided with her.
She sustained critical injuries, including the amputation of one leg.
Despite extensive medical efforts, including plans to fly her abroad for specialized treatment, Ruth tragically passed away on August 31, 2025.
Phyna confirmed the loss through a statement released by the family’s lawyer:
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at approximately 6:30 AM. The family requests privacy as they mourn.”
The accident and Ruth’s passing prompted a widespread outpouring of grief, with public calls for justice and road safety improvements.
A family source earlier revealed that representatives of the Dangote Group were informed immediately after Ruth’s death.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Group has reiterated its commitment to supporting the family and upholding safety standards in its operations.
