The police are set to arraign Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
Adeyemi, along with two other co-defendants, faces an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, impersonation, and related offenses. The prosecution, led by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki, filed the charges under case file FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025. The arraignment was previously scheduled for June 16, but Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the matter after Adeyemi was reported to be indisposed.
Court documents reveal that Adeyemi allegedly operated the fraudulent agency from the second floor of the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase III, in Abuja before his arrest. The case gained national attention after President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a thorough investigation into the fictitious council’s activities.
The prosecution has assembled a diverse list of witnesses to testify during the trial, including:
- Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila
- Civil servants from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation
- Personnel who were unknowingly deployed to work at the fake agency
- The owner of a local Abuja hotel and a resident clergyman
To secure a conviction, the police intend to present key documentary evidence. This includes a petition written by Gbajabiamila, a forged presidential appointment letter, unauthorized requests sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and fraudulent documentation used to obtain approvals for opening accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria. Legal proceedings are expected to commence fully once the defendants enter their pleas on Tuesday.
