Favour Ofili has made history by qualifying for the women’s 200m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
She executed a solid race strategy, Monday evening (August 5, 2024) finishing second with a season-best time of 22.05 seconds, just behind Julien Alfred, who won the heat in 21.98 seconds.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the 100m event due to administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Ofili has bounced back with a strong showing in the 200m.
Her qualification for the final comes after she expressed her frustration on social media, questioning the organizations responsible for her lost opportunity in the 100m.
Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Enoh, has announced that an investigation will be conducted into Ofili’s exclusion from the 100m event, and those found responsible will face “thorough sanctions.” That remains to be seen.
However, Odili’s remarkable achievement showcases her talent and determination.
It has also raised hopes among Nigerian fans that she can secure a medal in the final.
