Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, institutional reform, and people-centred governance while inaugurating the new office complex of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs in the State Secretariat.

Represented by his Deputy, Mrs Monisade Afuye, Oyebanji highlighted the importance of providing civil servants with modern and functional workspaces to optimise service delivery to the grassroots.

The ministry, created in 2005, had been operating from a building within the old Governor’s Office.

“The Ministry must operate in an environment that reflects efficiency, order and dignity. This structure is a necessity and not a luxury,” Oyebanji said.

“Modern offices, improved ICT systems, conference rooms, and safer, healthier working conditions will enable officers to plan, coordinate, and serve our people better.”

The complex comprises 34 fully furnished offices accommodating at least 120 personnel, 14 additional offices at the rear, and a 200-capacity air-conditioned conference hall. The premises also feature a borehole, 4,000-litre water storage, secure fencing, and ample parking.

Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Folorunso Olabode, described the project as a “turning point for the Ministry,” adding that it would boost staff morale and productivity while enhancing operational capacity.

State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Olusegun Ojo, praised the governor for elevating local governance through financial autonomy and well-executed projects.

“Our partnership with the state government will ensure grassroots administration functions effectively, reducing poverty and neglect at the local level,” he said.

Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, commended the administration’s dedication to civil servant welfare, describing the complex as “an architectural masterpiece that enhances staff effectiveness and productivity.”

Present at the commissioning were the Commissioners for Rural Development, Femi Awe, and Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, other traditional rulers, and top civil servants.

Oyebanji reiterated that the state government would continue to invest in the modernisation of infrastructure and human capital as part of its broader agenda for effective governance and people-centred development.
