The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with grassroots organizations to drive socio-economic growth, foster social cohesion, and preserve the state’s cultural identity.
Governor Alex Otti made the commitment on Saturday during a ₦500 million fundraising campaign launched by the Association of Isiala Ngwa Sons and Daughters in Aba. The funds are earmarked for land acquisition and the subsequent construction of a modern Heritage Centre.
“My administration is focused on building a prosperous, inclusive, and development-driven state where every community will have opportunities to thrive,” Otti stated through his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, who represented him at the event. He characterized the proposed cultural hub as a visionary project that would preserve local history, strengthen communal ties, and serve as a permanent focal point for the Isiala Ngwa people.
The governor emphasized that community-led initiatives are vital complements to formal governance structures, noting that infrastructure and cultural hubs accelerate regional integration. He urged the leadership of the association to expand its mobilization efforts, bringing more indigenes into the fold to maximize their collective professional and economic potential for the benefit of the state.
Earlier in the event, Elder Uchendu Ahuruonye, President-General of the Association of Isiala Ngwa Sons and Daughters, explained that the group was established by professionals dedicated to advancing the socio-economic welfare of Ngwa land.
He noted that the Heritage Centre would stand as a symbol of their collective identity and aspirations. Ahuruonye also commended the current administration’s infrastructural policies, stating that recent public works have significantly restored corporate and public confidence in state governance.
