The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has certified Ademola Adeleke as the People Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate for the July 16 governorship election in Osun State.
The former senator appeared on the final list of cleared nominees for the election published by the commission on Friday.
Adegboyega Oyetola, the incumbent governor, was listed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Controversy had surrounded the candidacy of Adeleke for a while. Parallel primaries conducted earlier this month had produced two candidates.
While Ademola Adeleke’s candidacy was ratified by the National Working Committee of the Party, the primary that brought up Dotun Babayemi had been supported by some party big wigs.
