According to an eyewitness, Osaro went to Tina’s house but she refused to let him in, saying that their relationship had ended as her family returned her bride price in April 2024.

Infuriated, Osaro shattered the glass windows, doused the apartment with petrol and set it on fire with a lighter.

In a statement issued on Thursday by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command, said the arrest followed a distress call from one Osariten Terecy.

The statement said that at about 1:30 am on New Year’s Day, Osarinten reported to the command that her sister Uyi Tina was asleep in her residence at Asemota Street, Idunowinna Quarters, Benin City, when the estranged husband went to her house with a keg of fuel and set the building ablaze.

According to the police, the woman escaped with burns while the house was burnt down with everything inside, including £4,000 and a Lexus RX 330.

“The estranged husband with one other accomplice has been arrested and is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing,” the statement added.
