The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has paid a glowing tribute to the late veteran Nollywood actor, academic, and cultural icon, Pa Kola Oyewo, describing his passing as a significant loss to the entire Yoruba race.

The prominent traditional ruler stated that the late actor made indelible contributions to Nigerian performing arts, culture, and education throughout his career.

The monarch’s condolences were contained in an official statement released on Saturday by Moses Olafare, the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace.

Born on March 27, 1946, in Oba-Ile, Osun State, Oyewo passed away on Friday, sparking a wave of tributes from family members, colleagues, and stakeholders across the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Although a native of Oba-Ile, the late actor spent a substantial portion of his life and career in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, where he became a revered figure in both the community and the academic theater space.

“Pa Kola Oyewo was a pride of Yorubaland, a distinguished scholar, and a cultural ambassador who dedicated his life to the promotion of our rich heritage,” the Ooni stated. “Through his talent, wisdom, and commitment to excellence, he brought honor not only to Ile-Ife and Osun State but to the entire Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole.”

Oba Ogunwusi emphasized that Oyewo’s lasting legacy spans far beyond his on-screen and stage performances, highlighting his extensive work in mentorship, tertiary education, and the preservation of indigenous traditions.

The monarch offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and extended his deepest sympathies to the Oyewo family, urging them to find comfort in the impactful and honorable life the late cultural icon led.
