The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident involving a wild elephant that invaded Innayin Community, leaving one person dead and another missing.

On arrival at the scene, the lifeless body of a 45-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Tijani, was discovered in a nearby bush with injuries consistent with an animal attack.

His remains have since been evacuated to the General Hospital, Iwere-Ile, for medical examination and preservation.

The police further disclosed that another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, aged 50, is currently missing following an encounter with the same animal. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate him.

The Command has reassured residents of Innayin and surrounding communities that the situation is under control, urging them to remain calm and avoid the affected areas while operations continue.

Residents were also advised to promptly report any sighting of the elephant to security agencies.

Authorities noted that relevant agencies, including the National Park Service, have been contacted to provide expert guidance in managing the situation in line with wildlife conservation laws.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Abimbola Olugbenga, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, while appealing for public cooperation as efforts continue to secure the community and prevent further casualties.
