There was pandemonium in Ward 4,Unit 11,Oke ijebu, Akure Saturday morning, when yet to be identified gunmen invaded the polling unit, shooting sporadically to disrupt the voting process.

It was learnt that they had besieged the polling unit with an attempt to disrupt the poll but they were overpowered by security agencies.

Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo Command, Tee-Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the incident however, said normalcy had returned to the area.

Ikoro said, “it was not as pronounced as you heard. It was true someone shot into the air and police got wind of it and deployed more men. It happened in Ward 4, unit 11. But normalcy had returned to the area.”

Also at unit 4, ward 4, Ijomu/Obanla, in Akure South local government, at about 8.40 am gunmen stormed the polling unit.

A young man who was identified simply as Gboyega, was shot in the process and was rushed to the hospital on a motorcycle.

According to PM news ,Prospective voters, media men, election observers and INEC officials scampered to safety, as the hoodlums continued shooting for several minutes.

Men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence CORPS (NSCDC), later brought the situation under control.
