Experts in Estate Surveying and Valuation have have advocated regular support of government at all levels and other stakeholders in unlocking the wealth deposited in land for national development.

The experts who are members of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Ondo State Branch made the call in Akure, Ondo state capital during an awareness walk to mark the 2026 International Valuation Day with the theme: “Unlocking Nigeria’s Wealth: How Valuation Builds Our Prosperity.”

They maintained that Estate Surveyors and Valuers played a key role in wealth creation by providing reliable data for decision-making across the real estate and financial sectors.

Leading the pack was the Chairman, Ondo NIESV, ESV (Dr) Akintomide Akinlabi who said Estate Surveyors and Valuers play a critical role in transforming dead capital into active capital when assets are properly valued and documented. He noted that such assets could be used as collateral for loans and credit.

“Credible valuation can transform assets into viable collateral that supports small and medium enterprises, expands businesses and creates jobs, thereby boosting the economy, this is why we are increasing awareness on the gains of getting the service of certified Professionals to carry out your asset valuation”

Akinlabi appreciated members for trouping out for the walk.

Also speaking, Professor Adejoke Oladapo emphasised the need for stakeholders to support the institution by not patronising quacks as all efforts are being made to eliminate quackery from Real Estate business, citing the annual valuation day as a major way of carrying the populace along in their operations.

“Real Estate business is not insulated from quackery but we, certified Estate Surveyors and Valuers won’t allow it because there are many economic potentials embedded in the sector, land highly valuable and we need to unblock the wealth therein for overall development of our country” Oladapo admitted.

In his contribution, ESV Adeola Taiwo said public sensitization is essential to helping Nigerians make informed choices about property valuation. “Much of the nation’s wealth is tied up in untitled land that can’t be taxed, insured, or used as collateral, since prices are often based on rumor instead of proper valuation,” he posited

The excited NIESV members, decked in Green colour shirts walked from the popular Ministry of Works along Oyemekun Road in Akure through Cathedral, Old garage, Erekesan Market, Oke-eda, ending it at their Secretariat in Alagbaka.
