The Ondo State Government has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging a kidnapping incident in a school within the Akure metropolis.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the government clarified that there has been no record or report of any kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in the state capital.
According to the statement, all schools in Akure remain safe, open, and are conducting academic activities without disruption.
Security agencies, including the Police, Amotekun Corps, and the Department of State Services (DSS), were said to have verified the situation across school environments and confirmed that normalcy prevails.
The government noted that it has maintained strict security protocols in collaboration with school authorities and parents to ensure the safety of pupils, students, and teachers at all times.
It urged members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, to disregard the rumours and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
Similarly, the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology acknowledged growing anxiety among parents, which has led to the withdrawal of some students from schools in certain areas.
The Ministry, however, assured that there is no cause for alarm, emphasizing that schools across the state remain secure and conducive for learning.
It added that the government, working with conventional security agencies and local enforcement structures, has deployed robust and proactive measures to safeguard all public and private schools.
The government also called on citizens to rely on credible sources of information and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.
