Ahead of the October 10 Governorship election in Ondo State, politicians have been advised to caution their followers against any act of violence.

The Management, Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps, gave the advice yesterday while reacting to political clashes which occurred between two major political parties in Oba-Akoko on Wednesday.

The management of Amotekun Corps which specifically dissociated itself, its officers and men from the unfortunate incident, however, advised politicians to exercise restraints and caution their teeming followers to desist from engaging in acts that could cause a breach of peace.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) has been drawn to a video footage circulating on the social media of an unfortunate incident where the campaign teams of some Political Parties had a clash along Oba – Akoko axis of Akoko South-West Area of the State on Wednesday, 16th September, 2020.

“While we sympathise with victims of the unfortunate incident, we wish to seize this medium to dissociate the Corps from the unfortunate incident and to state categorically that Officers and men of Amotekun Corps were not involved in any way in the clash .

“The Agency remains resolute in its core responsibility of supporting Security Agencies to secure the State and rid it of criminal elements.

We remain apolitical and shall not support any political party or take part in political activities.

“We however advise Politicians to exercise restraints and caution their teeming follower to desist from engaging in acts that could cause a breach of peace .

“Finally, residents of the State are through this medium assured of our commitment to the safety of lives and property at making Ondo state a safe haven for investors”.it concludes.
