Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State and what he described as an inability to advance the interests of his constituents.
Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the Senate and holds the traditional title of Obarisi of Urhoboland, announced his resignation in a letter dated May 22, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The former lawmaker said his decision followed consultations with political associates and supporters, adding that his political aspirations and those of his followers could no longer be pursued effectively within the ruling party.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he stated.
He also appreciated the APC for the opportunity given to him to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate.
“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he added.
The resignation is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Delta State ahead of future political alignments, especially within the opposition camp where Omo-Agege has remained one of the most influential figures in the South-South region.
Political observers say the move may trigger fresh realignments among his loyalists across Delta Central and beyond, particularly among APC structures that have been grappling with internal disagreements in recent months.
Omo-Agege, however, affirmed that his focus remains on pursuing development and effective representation for the people of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria, noting that he would continue to pursue those goals outside the APC.
