The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has assented to a bill to increase the retirement age of Magistrate from 60 to 65 years.
The Governor also signed into law a bill to increases the number of members of the Edo State Oil Gas Producing Area Commission, EDOSOPADEC, from 7 to 10.
Speaking to journalists, Okpebholo said the signing of the bill to increase Magistrate’s retirement age to 65 years was aimed at enhancing the efficiency and experience of the judiciary by allowing seasoned magistrates serve longer, thereby improving the administration of justice in the state.
He said the passage of the bills by the legislature aligns with the state’s vision of enhancing judicial integrity and optimizing the benefits of its natural resources for the people of Edo State.
He added that the expansion of the membership of EDOSOPADEC from seven to 10 was expected to improve governance, representation, and operational efficiency within the agency.
The governor assured that it would also better the management of the state’s oil resources and foster economic growth, adding that the two bills are expected to take immediate effect, with relevant stakeholders expressing optimism about their potential impacts on governance and service delivery in the State.
