Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun says the ongoing Agro – Allied Cargo Airport located at Ilishan-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, would be ready for commissioning by the end of 2022.

The governor who spoke on Saturday at Ikenne as part of the ongoing campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the July 24 LG poll, said he remains committed to the project despite stiff resistance in some quarters.

Abiodun and his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun had locked horns over the nature and location of airport project in the state.

The governor made case for an Agro-Allied Cargo airport located at Ilishan-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area , while Amosun strongly backed a passenger airport located at Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing party stalwarts and residents of Ikenne LG, Abiodun said he would not bow to the opposition.

He said he remains the governor and “the buck stops at his table.”

The governor later led his campaign train to the site of the airport project, with the promise that it would be ready for use next year.

Abiodun said “Aeroplane will be landing here in Ikenne. Some people are building airport, some ‘airstrip’ and some domestic airport; they are embittered, they are fighting us. They said we can’t site the airport here, and I said ‘it is a lie.’

“I am the governor of Ogun State as we speak. I am in possession of both the bread and the knife. And I will share it as it pleases me.

“We have sited the project here already and by the end of next year, we will commission that airport.”

Abiodun said Ikenne LG, is “specially blessed” considering the number of prominent personalities who hailed from the council, including himself, late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo among others.

He said his administration has reconstructed over 270kilometres road and rehabilitated about 100 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.

Speaking earlier at Odogbolu, Abiodun declared that his administration would soon set up a Special Task Force to tackle cultism in the state.

He said his administration would not allow cultists and other criminal elements undermine the development of the State.

Abiodun also said contrary “hostile political environment” that he inherited in the state, the political temperature of the state “is now low”, owing to his government’s “inclusive and responsive” governance.

He said “I am glad today because there is nothing like gun shots. You can see that the political temperature of Ogun State is so low. We are happy and enjoy peace of mind. We are all doing our businesses peacefully. No record of killing.

“But some few young ones are into cultism, If I lay my hands on you…haaah! I am setting up a special task force on cultism. This state will become number in this country.

“And any attempt to undermine that by way of cultism is an act of sabotage and we will stamp it out.”
