The teenager, Alabi Quadri who recently regained his freedom after spending three months in prison over a contrived charge of armed robbery filed against him by a Lagos police station, has received an offer of scholarship from Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election.

Quadri became popular in 2023 during Peter Obi’s presidential campaign in Lagos when he stood in front of his moving convoy, spreading his hands in wide salute.

That image resonated with many supporters of Obi who gave the teenager some gift items. The gift items later became his source of trouble as entitled hooligans in the community demanded their share.

The teenager was later abducted by the hooligans and handed over to the Amukoko Police Division where the officers there swiftly drafted a charge of robbery against the lad.

Lead counsel to the teenager, Inibehe Effiong who put up spirited effort to secure the release of Quadri, announced via his X handle that Obi met Alabi Quadri on Friday, assuring to bankroll the lad through school or learning a skill.

He said: “We had a very engaging and productive meeting with Mr Peter Obi in Lagos today to discuss the case of Quadri Alabi.

“He made a commitment to help Quadri to get the necessary training or education that he desires and deserves.”
