Iyabo Obasanjo, An All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial hopeful and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has suspended her gubernatorial aspiration.
The suspension followed the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) as the consensus candidate of the Party for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Obasanjo, in a statement signed on Monday, April 13, 2026, also congratulated Adeola on his emergence as the APC candidate.
She thanked the Party leadership for allowing her to participate in the selection process and urged her supporters to stay calm and steadfast.
In her statement, Iyabo Obasanjo said: “I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”
Recall that Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun declared Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, the party’s candidate during a stakeholders meeting on Monday.
State chairman Yemi Sanusi convened the meeting, which was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun, former governor Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, and other caucus members.
