Oba Abimbola Owoade I has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The Canada-based professional, succeeds Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died on April 22, 2022, aged 83.
Recall that Oba Owoade was presented with the staff of office and instrument of office on Monday, January 13, by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.
He completed the compulsory 21-day traditional rites known as Oro Ipebi last Saturday, March 29.

He was officially crowned on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo as the State Governor Seyi Makinde led dignitaries to honour the new Alaafin.
President Bola Tinubu was represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
Also present were former deputy governor of Oyo State, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; lawmaker representing Oyo South, Senator Yunus Akintunde, and others.

Prominent monarchs included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad, and others.
Aare Oona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, was also present.
