The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced an indefinite suspension of the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State, citing ongoing structural renovations at the state’s permanent orientation camp.
The management of the scheme made the announcement via its official communications channels on Sunday, advising the affected youth that they would be contacted on short notice with new dates and venue details once the facilities are ready for use.
“This is to notify the general public and prospective corps members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course that their orientation course exercise is suspended for now due to ongoing renovation work at the orientation camp,” the NYSC management stated, adding that it deeply regrets any inconvenience caused to the participants and their families.
The suspension follows severe infrastructure damage sustained at the Niger State orientation camp in Paiko, located within the Paikoro Local Government Area. Earlier this year, a violent windstorm heavily compromised several key facilities on the grounds, including the male residential hostels, the multi-purpose assembly hall, the central kitchen, and the staff quarters. Following the disaster, State Governor Mohammed Bago ordered immediate emergency repairs to restore the camp.
This infrastructure-related postponement is not isolated. The NYSC has had to delay or alter orientation timelines in other states, including Enugu and Osun, due to similar facility upgrades and repairs.
While the nationwide 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise officially commenced on Wednesday, June 10, and is slated to run until Tuesday, June 30, affected prospective corps members assigned to Niger State have been instructed to await official mobilization alerts before traveling.
