The Management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has reacted to the conviction of one Christopher Adetuberu, over cybercrime-related issues.

In a statement signed by Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, described Adetuberu’s action as disappointing.

According to the Statement, the action is antithetical to what the NYSC stands for.

The NYSC backed the court ruling, insisting that it would serve as a deterrent to other members of the Scheme and Nigerian youths in general, who may want to engage in such criminal activity.

The NYSC maintained that Adetuberu’s action is not a paradigm for other Corps members and therefore does not represent the behavioural disposition of an average Corps member.

Accordingly, “Management enjoins all Corps members to exhibit at all times the ideals of patriotism, humility, selfless service, discipline, among others which the Scheme stands for,” the statement added.

The NYSC management also wants members to know that it would never shield anyone who gets themselves involved in criminal activities or falls short of the law.

Recalled that a 28-year-old NYSC member currently serving in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Adetuberu was arrested and subsequently sentenced to 2yrs for cybercrime.
