The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has commended security agencies for the rescue of 16 corps members abducted in Kogi State on August 26, 2026.
The corps members were kidnapped while travelling from the Bayelsa State NYSC Orientation Camp to Abuja after the completion of their orientation course.
In a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC applauded the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS, Kogi State Vigilante groups and others involved in the search and rescue operation.
The Scheme said the professionalism, courage, commitment and coordination demonstrated in rescuing the corps members were deeply appreciated.
NYSC also acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu to the safety and welfare of corps members nationwide.
“The security agencies were indeed animated by His Excellency’s concern and commitment to urgently and successfully rescuing the Corps members,” the statement said.
The Scheme further appreciated the families of the affected corps members for their patience and cooperation, and the media for handling the episode professionally without compromising the safety of the youths while in captivity.
“Management is relieved that all affected Corps members have been safely recovered and are in high spirits, eager to resume at their places of primary assignment.
” Their resolute spirit is humbling and instructive, and NYSC remains committed to supporting them as they recover from this traumatic experience,” the statement added.
NYSC said it remains committed to the safety and welfare of all corps members and will continue to work with government and security agencies to strengthen protective measures.
“Lessons have been learned, and protocols will be reviewed to forestall future occurrences. Salute to courage, duty, and patriotism,” it said.
