The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has solicited the support of Nigeria’s armed forces to tackle the menace of crude oil theft.
The Commission’s Chief Executive officer, Mr. Gbenga Komolafe made this request when he paid a visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor in his office in Abuja as part of his strategic engagement with critical stakeholders.
He stated that the NUPRC is responsible for the technical, operational and commercial regulation of the Upstream sector and it is geared to optimise the benefits of the nations hydrocarbon resources.
He reiterated the critical role of the CDS to then success of Upstream investments in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and appealed for stakeholder collaboration and partnership to deal with all security issues affecting the oil and gas industry.
The CDS in his response assured the CCE of the support of the nations armed forces in the fight against oil thieves.
He expressed concern about the menace of oil theft and stated that the armed forces are on top of the situation as current operational strategies are targeted at eliminating the incidences of oil theft.
He lauded the CCE for the engagement strategy and remarked that the interaction was significant.
He requested for detailed proposals that will ensure proper collaboration with all stakeholders.
