The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi has disclosed that the Corps arrested over 2,677 suspects for various offences including vandalism, illegal mining, kidnapping, and other acts of economic sabotage within the last five years.

The Commandant General made this known at the grand finale of activities marking the 2026 International Civil Defence Day celebration of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, held at the National Headquarters Parade Ground, Abuja.

According to him, the Corps also generated over N3.4 billion between 2021 and 2026 through the regulation of Private Guard Companies (PGCs), in line with its statutory mandate.

Giving an account of his stewardship, Prof. Audi noted that upon assumption of office, he prioritized training and retraining of personnel, deliberately implementing policies aimed at strengthening professionalism, operational efficiency, and service delivery across the Corps.

He highlighted key achievements of his administration to include the establishment of specialised operational units such as the Mining Marshals, Special Intelligence Squad, Female Special Force, and the Crack Squad, all of which have significantly enhanced the Corps’ response to emerging security threats nationwide.

Other landmark accomplishments include the establishment of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre; the Command and Staff College, Jos; the Arms Squad Training College, Udege; the renovation of existing training institutions; and the development of harmonised curricula for all NSCDC training schools.

The NSCDC helmsman further stated that the Corps’ strategic operational expansion has strengthened its participation in joint security operations, resulting in notable improvements in internal security across the country.

The event featured goodwill messages from the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Defence Intelligence, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

World Civil Defence Day is observed annually on March 1 by member nations of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO). However, as this year’s commemoration falls on a Sunday, the management of the NSCDC marked the celebration on Friday, February 27, being the last official working day of the week.1Q
