Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North Central have launched the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement to galvanise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s re-election in 2027.
The movement was unveiled at its inaugural meeting held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja on Friday.
SGF, Senator George Akume, commended the National Coordinator of the movement, Arc. Sonny S. T. Echono, for bringing the forum to fruition, stating that the North Central has the overriding objective of delivering the highest regional vote total for President Tinubu in 2027.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, described the initiative as timely, noting that challenges ahead of the 2027 elections were gradually receding and that the latest voter register indicated strong support for the APC in the region.
He said the political strength of the North Central, which currently boasts the SGF, the APC National Chairman and several key federal appointees, was significantly stronger than ahead of the last election.
Governor Sule added that the region would leverage the movement to take the party’s message to the grassroots.
Arc. Echono said the conversation was no longer about whether President Tinubu would win the North Central, but about positioning the region to deliver the highest number of votes nationally.
He commended Senator Akume, the North Central Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders for their commitment to the Renewed Hope Administration.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, described the movement as the first of its kind.
At the end of the meeting, the forum resolved to intensify mobilisation for President Tinubu, organise a grand rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, alongside a medical outreach programme, set up a Reconciliation Committee and hold town hall meetings across the six states and FCT.
It also resolved that the Information Minister would collaborate with state Commissioners for Information and state publicity structures to drive awareness of the initiative, with support from state governors.
