The New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP has denied claims that its presidential flagbearer, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has agreed to be the running mate to Labor party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Recall that Kwankwaso recently granted an interview with BBC Hausa where he confirmed the party is in talks with the Labor party for them to form a merger for the 2023 presidential election.

The debate of who will be the presidential and vice-presidential candidate if both parties merge has been on the lips of many Nigerians.

Earlier on Sunday, online was agog with claims that Kwankwaso has agreed to be Obi’s running mate.

The party in a series of tweets has debunked the claims, saying discussion is still ongoing between the two parties.

It wrote;

“Kindly ignore the rumors circulating online that, our esteemed presidential candidate, H.E. Sen. Dr. Rabiu Musa #Kwankwaso has agreed to deputize H.E. @PeterObi, in the upcoming presidential race.

“The leadership of both #NNPP & #LP are still discussing, and have not finalized terms and conditions, yet.

“We wish to categorically inform you that, agreements are yet to be reached.

“The rumors, as circulated, are unfounded, and gravely misleading.

“Together, we shall build strong, progressive and egalitarian democratic society.”
