The United Kingdom has blacklisted a Nigerian firm accused of participating in a covert financial network designed to help Russia evade international sanctions tied to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The enforcement action is part of a newly unveiled, broader penalties package announced by the British government.

The sweeping measures target 70 individuals, companies, and maritime vessels accused of facilitating Russia’s military procurement pipelines, illegal financial operations, and managing its “shadow fleet” of oil tankers.

According to an official statement from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the coordinated clampdown explicitly aims to disrupt Moscow’s ability to bypass Western trade restrictions and starve its defense sector of funds.

The package penalizes three technology firms and ten intelligence officers accused of sourcing critical military hardware, alongside third-country logistical suppliers located in China, Thailand, and Türkiye.

Regarding the West African connection, British authorities stated that the sanctioned Nigerian entity was actively supporting a sanctions-evasion scheme tied to “A7,” a known illicit Russian financial network used to move money internationally outside standard banking channels.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that the new restrictions are tailored to dismantle the logistical and monetary systems keeping the Russian war economy afloat. UK foreign officials added that as the Kremlin turns to increasingly deceptive tactics to fund its operations, international regulatory bodies will remain proactive in identifying and shutting down these global networks.
