Niger: Police Arrest 32 Suspects For Thuggery, Armed Robbery

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 32 suspects over thuggery and armed robbery related offences in Minna, the state capital. 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who made this known in a statement on Friday, March 17, 2023, said the suspects were arrested during raids on flashpoints in different areas of Minna.

  “In furtherance to the house-to-house raid operations of the Command as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, psc(+) that such sting operation will be a continuous exercise towards ensuring a lasting peaceful atmosphere in Minna metropolis and most especially to equally ensure a guaranteed peaceful environment for the March 18th Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Niger State,” the statement read.

 “Therefore, on 16/03/2023 at about 2355hrs, Operations Department of the Command in conjunction with other tactical teams conducted another raid operation at Angwan-Roka, Timber-Shed Maitumbi, Tudun-Natsira, New-Market, Dugudu Maitumbi. 

” Exhibits recovered from the suspects include; seven cutlasses, three saw blades, three knives, two scissors, three horns, six shisha pots/pipes, six phones, military camouflage trouser, and sticks among other items.

 “All suspects are in custody at SCID Minna undergoing investigation and they will also be arraigned in court for armed robberies related offenses, as they usually engage in blocking flamingo junction and other areas to dispossess unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables.” the PPRO added.
