Niger State Government has identified and legally recognized only nine Motor Parks in Minna, the state capital and advised the public to strictly patronize them.
The legally recognized Motor Parks are; Abdulsalam Garage, Central Garage, Kpakungu Garage, Limawa Garage, NSTA Garage, Mobil Garage, Peace Mass Travels Park, Nice Travels Park and Kure Market Park.
Briefing Journalists on the ban on illegal Motor Parks at Government House, Minna, the Deputy Governor, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso said government is further compelled to enforce the ban on illegal Motor Parks which became effective on Wednesday 9th June, 2021.
Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, who told Journalists that the move becomes necessary to further close some security gaps in the transportation sector, advised all commuters to desist from taking public transport outside the stipulated garages in order to safeguard their lives and property.
He said, henceforth, all commercial motorcycles and commercial vehicles must obtain commercial number plates and vehicles stickers from the Ministry of Transport for proper identification.
The State Acting Governor warned that no vehicles will be allowed to take passengers outside designated government approved Parks adding that a standard passengers Manifest designed and produced by the Ministry of Transport is to be used for all vehicles loading in all the motor Parks.
Other measures taken by the state government to further consolidate on the insecurity situation include the ban on private vehicles for commercial purposes.
Similarly, all private motorcycles and tricycles must be properly registered and issued Riders permit.
On the abducted 136 students of Tegina Islamic School Ahmed Mohammed Ketso assured that government is making frantic efforts to secure the release of the students.
The State Acting Governor stated that Government is not relenting in its efforts to ensure lasting peace and security returned to the troubled parts of the state.
While commiserating with the residents of Minna over the hardship these policies might cause them, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso also commended the Media for the sustained information dissemination in the state.
Responding to questions from Journalists, the Deputy Governor said that the ban on commercial motorcycles has come to stay, adding that the ban will be extended to other local governments.
He warned against unlawful charges and brutality against violators of the ban, calling on the public to report such incidents to the appropriate authority, while enjoying citizens to be law abiding.
Also speaking, Commissioner of Transportation, Hajiya Ramatu Mohammed Yar’adua explained that the government was aware of the shortage of NSTA buses provided to cushion the effect of the ban, she disclosed that the Ministry is making plans to add more buses and tricycles for township service pointing out that the tricycles will be distributed to deserving members of ACOMORAN.
