The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Responsive Humanitarian Leadership Award for her contributions to emergency and disaster management in Nigeria.*
The award was presented to her by the Andoma of Doma, His Royal Highness Dr. Ahmadu Aliyu Onawo, on behalf of Blueprint Newspapers during the 8th Blueprint Newspapers Annual Public Lecture and Impact Series/Awards held on Monday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Mrs. Umar was recognized alongside other eminent Nigerians, including state governors, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, senior public officials and captains of industry.
The event drew high-profile dignitaries, including governors, ministers, political leaders, traditional rulers and business executives.
The award, according to the organizers, recognizes Mrs. Umar’s transformational leadership and her efforts to reposition NEMA into a more proactive, people-centred and responsive disaster management agency.
It adds to a growing list of recognitions the NEMA DG has received for public service and strengthening Nigeria’s disaster management architecture.
Reacting, Mrs. Umar dedicated the award to NEMA staff, stakeholders and partners in the country’s disaster management community. She also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their support in advancing the Federal Government’s disaster risk management and humanitarian objectives.
The NEMA DG reaffirmed her commitment to providing purposeful leadership at the agency and working with stakeholders to strengthen disaster risk reduction, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery in line with government’s commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods across the country.
