The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has activated the Agency’s National Emergency Operations Centre, NEOC, to enhance coordination and processing of data on the 2026 flood situation across the country.
Speaking during the activation and inauguration of NEOC members at the NEMA Headquarters in Abuja on August 4, 2026, Mrs. Umar charged the team to be diligent, professional and proactive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
She emphasized the importance of ensuring that information generated and disseminated from the Centre is factual, timely and reliable to support effective decision-making and management of flooding and other climate-induced disasters.
The DG stated that the activation is part of NEMA’s proactive measures to strengthen national preparedness and ensure effective coordination of stakeholders during the 2026 rainy season. She noted that timely access to credible information is critical to early action and protection of lives in communities at risk.
The Deputy Director, Planning, Research and Forecasting, Mr. Tony Ephraim, assured the DG that members of the Centre would ensure effective monitoring, data collection and analysis to support coordinated response.
The NEOC will serve as a central hub for monitoring the flood situation and harmonising information from stakeholders.
