The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 56 suspected drug peddlers and dismantled several illicit drug joints across Kano State during a coordinated three-day enforcement operation.
The operation, carried out between February 6 and 8, 2026, was conducted under the ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak”, launched by the Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, as part of intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
NDLEA operatives targeted known drug hotspots in Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa and Sabon Gari, extending their raids to other illicit drug points within and outside the Kano metropolis.
According to the agency, the coordinated raids were designed to disrupt entrenched drug distribution networks operating in these communities and restore safety to neighbourhoods affected by illegal drug activities.
During the operation, NDLEA officers recovered several exhibits, including cannabis sativa, Exhol-5, diazepam and pregabalin, as well as other controlled substances and related paraphernalia.
The agency said the seizures represent a significant blow to local drug supply chains and reaffirm its determination to rid communities of dangerous substances.
Among those arrested was 30-year-old Yunusa Yasin, a resident of the Badawa area, who was reportedly linked to a homicide that occurred five years ago.
The suspect has since been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to achieving a drug-free Kano, in line with the agenda of the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.).
Speaking on the operation, the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, said the agency would sustain targeted enforcement actions across the state.
Maigatari added that the NDLEA would continue to collaborate with communities to safeguard public health and security.
He also urged members of the public to provide useful information about individuals and locations involved in illicit drug activities to help authorities sustain the ongoing crackdown and ensure safer communities.
