The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has seized 757 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa during separate operations across Lagos State.

According to a report by The Nation, the illicit substances, packed in 18 bags, were intercepted in three operations carried out between April 7 and July 17 before being handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Navy Base in Apapa, Lagos.

Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the seizures were made following intelligence-led operations.

He said five bags were intercepted at Abule Osun on April 7, two at Ikare Island on April 13, and 11 at Alpha Beach on July 15.

Adams-Aliu attributed the successes to the Nigerian Navy Western Regional Control Centre, codenamed Falcon Eye, a surveillance system that combines long-range cameras and sensors to monitor coastal waters beyond the reach of patrol boats.

He said the platform provided real-time intelligence, enabling operational teams to intercept suspects before they could act.

He linked the recoveries to the technological drive of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and pledged the Base’s sustained intelligence-driven operations against drug trafficking and other maritime crimes in collaboration with the NDLEA.

Receiving the exhibits on behalf of the NDLEA Marine Command, Commander Narcotics, Luka Yerima, commended the Navy’s partnership and said the agency remained committed to working with security services to tackle organised crime.

The exhibits will undergo forensic examination as investigations continue into the trafficking network behind the seizures, he added.
