The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a 50,000-litre Braithwaite water storage tank, solar-powered industrial borehole and community town hall in Adiabo Akani Obio, Odukpani Local Government Area, Cross River State.*
The projects, executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, were inaugurated to improve access to potable water and provide a functional space for community meetings and social activities.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Abbas, the Chief of Naval Transformation and Innovation, Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi, said the intervention reaffirms the Navy’s commitment to strengthening civil-military relations through practical projects that address genuine community needs.
He noted that the project was executed in honour of the Chief of Operations, Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Patrick Effah.
The Special Guest of Honour, the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, joined other dignitaries and community leaders at the commissioning, which featured cultural displays and goodwill messages from residents.
The Obong commended the Navy for the gesture, describing it as a direct response to the people’s needs.
The commissioning ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque and ribbon-cutting by Navy officials alongside community leaders.
The Navy said the initiative underscores its commitment to improving community wellbeing while deepening the trust and cooperation essential to its maritime security mandate.
