The federal Ministry of sports and youth development has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Delta state government to get hosting rights for the four editions of the National Youth Games from 2023 to 2026.

Sunday Dare, the sports minister, while signing the MoU at the government house, Asaba said the right award was one of the enduring legacies of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

On his part, Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta, said the government agreed to sign the MoU due to its belief in youth development from the grassroots.

“Delta state has been a leading champion in almost all the sporting competitions. We need other states to challenge us and let them get prepared early enough to compete at least for second position because Delta will ever maintain its lead,” said Okowa while thanking the federal government for the right honour.

A statement by the sports ministry revealed that the document had been perused and certified okay for signing by both parties.

“Signing the document is a critical step that would signpost the commencement of activities for the successful organisation of the first in the series of the Games in September 2023,” the statement reads.
