The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman suspected of trafficking ammunition to terrorists operating in volatile areas of the state.

Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel revealed the development on Thursday, May 15 in Lafia, stating that the suspect, identified as Fatima Salisu from Funtua in Katsina State, was apprehended in the Azuba area of Lafia.

She was allegedly transporting the ammunition through Keana and Doma Local Government Areas, with plans to deliver them to criminal elements in Katsina.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” Nansel said.

The operation led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of 481 rounds of live ammunition—400 rounds of 7.62x39mm and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

Fatima is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the arms trafficking network and uncover links to terrorism and banditry in the region.

Police described the arrest as a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms proliferation and violent crime across the state.

The Command urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing timely and credible information with security agencies to aid ongoing security operations.
