The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has engaged the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, over the suspension of the institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, James Adio.

The NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, disclosed this in a statement on Friday on X, saying he held an extensive discussion with the vice-chancellor following the union’s earlier condemnation of the suspension.

According to Babatunde, the national leadership of NANS expressed strong opposition to what it described as the ‘unjust suspension’ and ‘persecution’ of the student leader.

‘Sequel to my earlier post today condemning the unjust suspension of FUOYE SUG President, I had an extensive discussion with the FUOYE Vice-Chancellor.

‘I expressed our fierce resentment towards the suspension of FUOYE SUG President, Comrade Adio James. Going forward, I made known the position of the national leadership of NANS over the unjust persecution of the President.

‘Subsequently, I expressed a fierce opposition to this development, and expressed utmost dissatisfaction forthwith’, he said.

Babatunde said the vice-chancellor explained the circumstances surrounding the suspension, after which he appealed for an amicable resolution.

‘The Vice-Chancellor on his part narrated the situation that led to the suspension of the President, and immediately, I appealed to him to allow us reach a common ground to resolve the matter amicably.

‘Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor promised to look into it, and assured me that there will be a progressive resolution at the next senate sitting on Wednesday’, he added.

The NANS president also revealed that the vice-chancellor had ordered an investigation into the alleged release of the suspended SUG president’s private information.

‘On a final note, the Vice-Chancellor intimated me that he has ordered an impartial and thorough investigation into the activities that led to the release of the President’s private life to the public. He assured me that everyone involved will be brought to book’, Babatunde stated.

He commended the vice-chancellor for his response while reiterating the association’s commitment to protecting students from intimidation.

‘To this end, I appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his fatherly response and also reiterated our stance that, under this administration, we won’t allow any form of intimidation towards Nigerian students’, he said.

It was reported that the Federal University Oye-Ekiti suspended two senior officials and the Students’ Union Government president over allegations of unauthorised collection of N1,000 from 100-level students for practical sessions.
