The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) has concluded its investigation into public concerns over the extended shelf life of BON Bread, affirming that the product meets all regulatory and safety requirements.
The investigation followed a controversial video posted on April 13, 2026, by a blogger, identified as Love Dooshima, expressing alarm over a loaf of bread she said had remained fresh for nearly two months without going mouldy.
Though she did not mention any brand, BON Bread’s manufacturer claimed the product was theirs and denied the allegation.
The video went viral, prompting the company to serve Dooshima a N50 million lawsuit.
She was subsequently detained by the Nigeria Police Force on April 20 after honouring an invitation to the Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja over allegations of cyberstalking, fraud and mischief.
In a statement, the agency said laboratory analyses carried out on samples of the bread showed that only approved preservatives were used, and within limits considered safe by international standards.
NAFDAC further confirmed that no harmful or objectionable substances were detected during testing, including bromate, a banned additive often associated with health risks in baked products.
The agency’s findings provide reassurance to consumers, following widespread scrutiny and speculation over the product’s durability and composition.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health, noting that all registered food manufacturers are subject to routine inspections and compliance checks to ensure adherence to established safety guidelines.
