In what seems to be a compelling factor for his decision to take a shot at the upper legislative chamber, Engineer Adelere Oriolowo, the APC senatorial candidate of Osun West, is on the move to answer the call of his people.

His decision to represent his constituency at the Nigerian Senate did not come on a shadow of political recognition, but rather, a resolution that is hinged on his tenacity of purpose, dogged determination to lift his people from the abyss of poor representation and resolute strive to spread the dividend of democracy across the Osun West senatorial district.

In an exclusive chat with our reporter at his country home in Iwo, Osun state, Oriolowo maintained that his APC senatorial candidature is a popular one which involves all the three constituencies of Osun West.

“It is my wish after retiring from active service as a permanent Secretary to live the rest of my life for humanity and this I believe I can find opportunity in the legislative arm of government.

“I believe I have a good chance. People have been looking forward to enjoy my selfless service to humanity.

“I have been dealing with rural community and they are just waiting to see the time when I will serve them in a higher capacity where the issues bothering on their well-being will be taken to the higher legislative body.” He pointed out.

Hinting on some of the factors that triggered his desire to run for the election, the Osun APC senatorial candidate dwelled extensively on his unquenchable thirst to bring a sustainable development to every ward level that make up his senatorial district.

“I will bring Administration to ward level. This will help a lot in bringing sustainable development to my people. Most of the infrastructures and other social investments put across to people are not sustainable because the people to use them are not empowered in the right way.

“In this case, am a project man. I know how to engage people, get them driven and participated in the affairs and process of their community development and I know that this will definitely bring dividend of democracy to my people.” He noted.

speaking on the issue of vote buying that has suddenly crept into the Nigerian electoral lexicon and become a menace to the democratic system, Engineer Oriolowo frowned at the development and described the politicians who engage in the act as enemies of democracy.

“According to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, you must strive for economic power first, before you can think of political power. When you see people borrowing money to obtain nomination form, you will realize they will be living at the mercy of political godfathers.

“Whoever is contesting for an election must be economically sound and independent. This is the only way they can be free from the grip of godfathers.

“Vote buying and selling is a serious threat to democracy and whoever emerges winner of an election through vote buying will definitely make a bad representation of his people at any level of government.”

Oriolowo’s submission however, appears to have aptly captured the views of the majority of Nigerians who have been battered, buffetted and currently groaning under the heavyweight of bad leaders who found their ways to power through vote buying.

Although, this trend has gradually become a political phenomenon, Oriolowo, in view of his standpoint, has decided to distance himself from the urgly drift by leveraging his chance on his grassroot network, impeccable character, uncommon track record and epic sojourn in the corridor of Osun State Civil Service.
