Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, Chris Okafor, publicly apologised to Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala, on Sunday, kneeling before his congregation during a church service as he sought forgiveness amid an escalating public dispute.
The apology was broadcast in a livestream widely shared on social media.
Okafor, widely known for leading the Grace Nation Liberation City branch of his ministry, addressed the controversy that has dominated headlines for weeks, touching on allegations of a broken promise of marriage and other personal claims made by Ogala.
He acknowledged that “mistakes have been made in the past” and repeatedly asked for forgiveness from those he said he had offended, including Ogala.
In the video, he told his congregation that he was “ready to make restitution to anyone that I have offended,” and asked for prayers as he knelt before church members.
Despite the contrition, Okafor maintained that “not everything that was said is true” and described parts of the allegations against him as containing “so many lies.”
The dispute between the pastor and the actress had intensified earlier this month when Ogala’s legal team, Synergy Law Partners, delivered a demand letter seeking N1 billion in damages, citing emotional distress, reputational harm and financial loss arising from their alleged relationship.
Ogala’s name trended online after she issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Okafor to drop a defamation suit against social media activist, VeryDarkMan and publicly apologise.
Reacting to Okafor’s apology on her Instagram account and during a live session, Ogala said she forgives him but took issue with his claim that her allegations were lies.
She stated, “Chris Okafor, I forgive you, but there’s a problem where you said everything is a lie because I don’t lie.”
Ogala also urged him not to kneel, saying a sincere apology was all she wanted.
The high-profile exchange has sparked vigorous debate online, with commentators discussing faith leaders’ conduct and personal accountability.
