The process for the emergence of a new Owa of Idanre was concluded on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with voting by the kingmakers to elect a successor to the late Owa, Oba Fredrick Adegunle Aroloye.
The historic exercise, conducted by the eight accredited kingmakers of Idanre Kingdom, featured seven contestants vying for the revered traditional stool.
The selection of a new Owa, was earlier scheduled for Tuesday after consultations between the Regent, High Chief Akinloye Akinboni, the Idanre Development Assembly and the Chairman of Idanre Local Government, Hon. Smart Adeuyi Omotadowa.
In the voting exercise monitored from the live proceedings, Prince Mayowa Aroloye secured 7 votes to lead the contest.
The full result from the session as announced showed:
- Prince Ibukun Aroloye – 0
- Prince Kayode Aroloye – 0
- Prince Mayowa Aroloye – 7
- Prince Tope Aroloye – 1
- Prince Siji Aroloye – 0
- Prince Gboyega Aroloye – 0
- Prince Frederick Ayinuola – 0
The voting is in line with the tradition of the town, where selection is done by ballot among the kingmakers.
Following the announcement of the results, the Secretary to Idanre Local Government, who presided over the electoral proceedings, formally declared Prince Mayowa Aroloye as the Owa-Elect of Idanre Land.
The stool of Owa of Idanre became vacant following the transition of the former Owa, with the selection process having advanced to the stage where kingmakers were expected to convene publicly under the supervision of local government officials to elect a new monarch.
The exercise follows months of tension over eligibility criteria, with the Registered Declaration and White Paper on the Morgan Chieftaincy Review Commission recognizing one ruling house – the Owa’s House – and stipulating conditions for qualification.
