Leading independent African publisher Masobe Books has announced the acquisition of Black Market, the highly anticipated third novel and fifth book by award-winning Nigerian journalist and author Olukorede S. Yishau.
The novel is scheduled for release in September 2026.
Black Market follows the intertwined lives of two Nigerian couples living in Texas, United States: Eyitayo and Yewande, and Tobi and Bukola. Through their stories, Yishau examines one of the enduring assumptions within immigrant communities—that returning home to choose a spouse is a safeguard against marital failure.
The novel dismantles that belief with emotional honesty and psychological depth. As the lives of the two couples unravel, Black Market explores identity, loneliness, betrayal, ambition, emotional abuse, cultural expectations and the hidden costs of pursuing the Nigerian dream abroad.
It asks difficult questions about love, compatibility and whether geography, rather than character, has too often been blamed for broken marriages.
With Black Market, Yishau once again demonstrates his gift for weaving compelling human stories with urgent social commentary, producing a novel that is both intimate and expansive.

He is also the author of a collection of short stories, Vaults of Secrets (2020) and a collection of travel writings, United Countries of America and Other Travel Tales (2022).
