A 27-year-old woman, Mariam Ayila has been arrested for kidnapping a 13 years old girl who was on an errand and demanding for a N250,000.00 ransom to release her in Atan Ota area of Ogun state.

Ayila was arrested following report by the girl’s father, Ismail Yusau that he sent his daughter on errand to Agbara market at about 11 am of the day, only to receive a strange call some hours after from an unknown person who informed him that she has been kidnapped.

The father told the police that the caller told him that if he didn’t send the sum of N250,000 as ransom, he will never set his eyes on his daughter again.

Ogun police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a press release said upon the report, the DPO Agbara division, CSP Abiodun Salau, mobilized his crack detectives, who embarked on technical and intelligence based investigation.

He added that the suspect was traced to her hideout at Atan ota area, where she was promptly arrested and the little girl was rescued unhurt.

The police spokesperson added that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had also kidnapped a young girl at Itele Ota area on the 19th of December 2022, and ransom paid to her before she released her victim.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be handed over to the Anti kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and prosecution.
