Suspected herdsmen have killed unknown number of people in Amegu Nkalaha community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The assailants who attacked the community in the early hours of Sunday, February 2, 2025, also burned numerous houses.
Spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack stating that police have deployed operatives to the area.
While confirming the attack, Ukandu noted that the number of casualties is still being investigated.
“Yes, an attack occurred and police are responding to the situation.
“Several houses were also burnt selectively in the area and other properties destroyed.
“Upon receipt of the information, we drafted police operatives to the area.
” We are currently investigating the incident while normalcy has returned to the area,” he said.
While the motive for the attack remains under investigation, some residents suggested that it may be connected to the recent killing of cows belonging to herdsmen in the area
